DogPedigree field guide
What to include in a puppy buyer packet
A buyer packet should be complete enough to support the puppy's next steps while remaining narrow enough to protect unrelated breeder records. Prepare it from a source archive, but export only the selected puppy and documents you intend to hand over.
Puppy identity
Include the puppy's call name or identifier, sex, date of birth, litter reference and the breeder contact details you want to share. Use the same identifiers in every exported file.
Pedigree summary
Provide a readable pedigree that identifies sire and dam and, when available, the relevant preceding generations. A PDF is convenient for people; structured data is useful for future migration.
Selected health documents
Attach only the records that apply to the puppy and that you are authorized to share. Label files clearly and preserve the originals in the private archive.
A contents manifest
List every file in the packet and add checksums when possible. A manifest makes the handoff auditable and helps both parties confirm that a later copy still matches the original export.
